Pithoragarh is a small district of Uttarakhand in north indai. Pithoragarh is surrounded by Nepal to the east and Tibet to the north. The plac is famous for its natural beauty and known as "The Little Kashmir" and located at an elevation of 1514 meters above the sea level. Pithoraghar is a small valley about 5 km long and 2 km wide.
Hindi, Enhlish and Kumaoni are the three main language spoken at Pithoraghar. The town Pithoraghar has a lot of religious and Historical importance. The region is a pilgrims route of the journey to Holiest shrines of Kailash Mansarover. Offered the excellent views of the snow capped peaksof Nanda Devi, Panchachuli, appi of nepal fromm Chandak hill located at an elevation of 2000 mts above the sea level.
Pithoraghar has several religious temples and a faous for constructed by the Gurkhas in the 8th Century. Kapileshwar Mahadev Temple is located in Pithorahar, dedicated to Lord shiva. One can get a wonderful views of the soar valley and surrounding himalayan Peak and famous for its hills like Nanda Devi to East, Nanda Devi to west, Trishul, Rajrambha, Hardeol, Bambadhura, Nandakhat, and the Panchchuli and has some glaciers like Ralam, Milam, Namik, Meola and Balati Glaciers. Pithoraghar is also famous for Wooden, Woolen and Handicraft.
Pithoragarh town is a historical landmark. Pilgrims take their journey to the holy shrines Kailash and Mansarovar from Pithoragarh. Jolingkong and Anchherital lakes are situated at a height of 4634m and 3658m. Many beautiful old temples are also found in the district. Nakuleshwar Temple, Arjuneshwae Temple and Kapileshwar Mahadev Tempel are the famous and well known temple located in Pithoraghar. The other attraction of the place are champawat, Abbot mount, patal bhuvneshwar, Gangolihat etc. Pitharaghar is a small charming hill station offered various beauty of the palce and nearby.
Summer Season: Summer season is starts fromthe month of April to till the month of June. The temprature is between 7 degree to 20 degree Summer are considered as best time to visit Pithoragarh and to see all attraction spots including teples. Summer is the pleasent time with moderate climate.
Winter Season: December to March is the winter season in the city. During the season the days are quite chilly and have an average temprature is 4 degree to 8 degree. Winter in Pithoragarh are freezing cold with snow at higher altitude. The snowfall is begins in the month of January.
Monsoon Season: During the monsoon season you can experience heavy rainfall in the month of July to August. Monsoon is starts from July to November. During the season days are quite but nights are chilly.
Chandak: Chandak is a hill and located at a distance of 8 km from pithoragarh and a small trek situated an the north side of the soar valley. The mostamanu Temple is also found here from 2 km away . This temple is attract to the lots of visitors during the August and September when a fair is organised here.
Pithoragarh Fort: This fort was built in 1789 by Chandak king and reconstructed by the Gorkhas. This fort is located on the top of the hill near to the pithoragarh town and offered some scenic views of the surrounding valley. Located at a distance of 7 km from from Pithoraghar and famous as a historical architecture. Pithoraghar has many attraction and the fort is one of them.
Munsiyari: A small and glorious town and located at a distance of 127 km from Pithoragarh. It is offers of wild flowres, lake and other raw from of nature. It is also to be the gateway to Himalayans.
Arjuneswar Temple: The temple Arjuneswar is located at a distance 10 km to the west of pithoragarh town. This is believed that the temple is built by Arjuna of the pandavas. The temple has dedicated to Lord Shiva. Arjuneswar temple is situated at a heigh of 6000ft. One can visit any time to the temple but thr brst time is April to July.
Askot Sanctuary: The sanctuary heaven for wildlife lovers, and offered wide range of flora and fauna. This sanctary is located at height of 5412 m and at a distanceof 54 km from pithoragarh. You can find animals like - Chirs, Pheasants, Koklas, Bharals, Himalayan Black bear, musk deers, chukors, and snow leopards.
Gangolihat: This is a small hill town. Gangolihat is famous for hosting the Shakti peethas of Goddess kali. It is a very small town located near the Patal Bhuvneshhwar. This is the place where true worship and natural wonders are found. The small town is loved by Devotees and travelers and offered a wonderful wide views of Himalayans. Gangolihat is located at a distance of 76 km away from Pithoragarh.
Naini Saini Airport: This Airport is situated in a beautiful city of Pithoragarh. This Airport is also known as Pithoragarh Airport. This Airport is constructed in 1991. Now Currently Government of Uttarakhand is operating this Airport.
Thal Kedar: Thal Kedar is dedicated to Lord Shiva and located at an elevation of 880 meters above the sea level. This is the place famous for its ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The location is offered some realy view of of the valley. This place is attract to the tourist during the festival of Shivratri every year. Situated at a distance of 16 km from Pithoragarh.
Ralam Glacier: This is the one of the major Himalayan Glaciers and located at an altitude of approximately 2300 meters above the sea level. This glaciers is one of the famous trek route in Uttarakhand and attracts several tourist each year. Height of the trek is 3900 meter above the sea level and this trek is covered in 10 days.
Dhwaj Temple: This temple is surrounding by majestic Himalayas and the Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Maa Jayanti. Dhwaj Temple is located at a distance of 10 km from Pithoragarh at an altitude of 2100 meters above the sea level. The place is known as the home of Snow leopards and Himalayan black bears. Offered majestic views of the snow capped Himalayan.
Nakuleshwar Temple: The temple is a well known religious site located close to Pithoraghar. Situated at a distance of 4 km from Pithraghar and 2 km from village Shiling. The temple has around 38 images of God and Goddess includes Shiv-Parvati, Uma- Vasudev, Surya, Nauvarge, Mahishasur Mardini, vaman and Nardisng. The all images are made of stones. The temple was built by pandav brothers Nakul and Sahdev and dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Kapileshwar Mahadev Temple: The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Situated at a distance of 3 km from Pithoraghar. Kapileshwar Mahadev Tempel is locatedd near Takaura and Takari village of Pithoraghr. According to the legend a great sage was meditate at this palce named Kapil.
Rameshwar Ghat: It is lies on the confluence of the Ramganga and Saryu River and Situated at a distance of 36 km from Pithoragarh. There are two major temple here dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Rama. A fair is held here on the day of Makar Sankranti.
Champawat: Situated at a distance of 72 km from Pithoraghar with at an elevation of 1615 mts above the sea level. It was the ancient capital of Chand Dynasty and believed that the place is kurmavtar of Lord Vishnu. Offered rich flora and fauna and also an ideal spot for bird watching. The place is surrounding by Nepal on the east.
Patal Bhuvneshwar: Patal Bhuvneshwar is a cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and situated at a distance of 91 km from Pithoraghar. You can see many rocks having various shapes and figures which resembles many gods and goddess. It is believed that the cave is the home of thousands God and Goddess. Especialy on the day of Shivratri thousand of tourist visit the cave every year.
Abbott Mount: Abbott Mount remains covered with the sheet of Snow during the Winter season and situated at an elevation of 2019 mts above the sea level. Abbott mount is located far from the Hustale and Bustale of the city and 13 cottages spread over the hills. Situated at a distance of 56 km from pithoraghar, Offered the majestic view of snow capped peaks of himalayan and glorious view of the surrounding.
Jauljibi: Situated at a distance of 68 km from Pithoraghar and located at the confluence of Gori and Kali River. A fair is held here in the month of November which attract the devotees from Different places. The people of Nepal are visit the place during this fair.
Dharchula: Dharchula is an important destination of Kumaon Region as the route to Kailash Mansarover and Chota Kailash yatra. situated at a distance of 85 km from Pithoraghar district. Dharchula is situated on the border of Pithoragarh.
Ashok Sanctuary: Located baout 54 km from Pithoraghar at an elevation of 5412 ft above the sea level. Ashok Sanctuary is rich in flora and fauna but also offered the charming vistas of Nature's beauty. one can see animals like Bharals, Snow Leopard, Himalayan Black bears, Chirs, Koklas, Pheasants, musk deers, snow cocks, Tahra and chukors.
Gangolihat: Gangolihat is a small charming hill station, Situated at a distance of 77 km from Pithoraghar at an elevation of 1800 mts above the sea level. There is an ancient and famous temple situated, dedicated to Goddess kali and one of the importance religoius center of Kumaon region.
