A famous for the trek way from the dense forest to the ridge from here you can see wonderful sunset and panoramic sunrise is the Kartik Swami Temple. A temple of exquisite views and mystic ambiance is Kartik Swami which is dedicated to elder son of God Shiva. Situated near Village Kanak Chauri on Rudraprayag- Pokhari route in the Rudraprayag district of the Uttarakhand state perched on a hilltop at a 3050m elevation is the famous Hindu temple. God Shiva challenged his sons God Kartikeya and God Ganesha which whoever will first take seven rounds of the universe will have the honor to be first of worship, according to the myth of Hindus. Then after hearing this Kartik begins his journey but God Ganesha used his wit and took seven rounds of his parents saying “My parents are my universe”. Declared that as the winner that hit Ire of God Kartik, God Shiva was impressed by words of his Younger Son God Ganesh. Then God Kartik gave his flesh to his mother and bones to his father as a result. Here the idol of Kartik Swami depicts the bones by devotees that are largely worshipped.
You can see the most beautiful sunset; snow capped Himalayan ranges and amazing sunset from Kanakchauri village. One can see mountain peaks such as Nanda Devi, Banderpoonch, Dronagiri, Kedarnath, Neelkanth, Sumeru and Chaukhamba on a clear sky day. A naturally carved idol of God Kartik on a marble type rock is here. Also renowned for heart- melting sunset views and offering the majestic sunrise is Kartik Swami which is apart from being a mesmerize tourist attraction. Also you can see snow clad peaks beginning from Bander Punch in the west, Nanda Devi group of peaks, Kedarnath Dome, Trishul, Meru & Sumeru, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba peak, Dronagiri and Neelkanth. Not surprise that his son also has a separate temple, along with a hilltop for him since this area is full of major shrine of Lord Shiva, the “Panch Kedars”. Throughout the year remains open is Kartik Swami which is an easy to reach.
Lord Kartikeya (Murugan): Kartik Swami is also known as Murgan Swami in Tamil Nadu, Kartikeya in Bengal and Subramanya in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
Summer Season: Here the summer seasons starts in the month of April till June. The whole witnesses abundance of rhododendron that one can easily get to see on the trekking way during the month of March and April.
Monsoon Season: During July to September months experience heavy rainfall along with the whole state the Rudraprayag state. Along with opportunities of road blockage heavy rainfall makes trekking very difficult. You will notice rich vegetation here in August and September month.
Winter Season: Here the commencement of winter season is the October month that lasts till March. Between November and January month offers the majestic and clear view of range of snow- clad Himalayas.

By Road: Well connected by roads is the temple of Kartik Swami. Also available are interstate buses from ISBT Anand Vihar (Delhi) to Srinagar, Rudraprayag and Rishikesh. You can also hire a taxi or cab to Kanak Chauri. You’ll have to undergo a 3km trek in order to reach Temple Kartik Swami once you reach Kanak Chauri.
By Air: Jolly Grant Airport is the closest airport from the place of Dehradun that is around 192km away from the place. To reach Rudraprayag one can board a cab or taxi from the airport.
By Train: One has to take a train to either Rishikesh or Haridwar railway station that are closest railway stations towards Rudraprayag which is located at a distance of around 138km and 160km respectively in order to reach the temple through railway network.
