Bhagirath Kharak Glacier Trek

It is located in Chamoli district at the head of river Alaknanda of Uttrakhand about 15 km in Badrinath. From the eastern slopes of Badrinath and Chaukhamba peaks it rise the altitude of the glacier is 3,820 m. and from the glacier Alaknanada River is also rises and cross the Bhagirath Kharak. Glacier’s have an average width of 750 – 850 meters. Near this glacier Vasudhara Falls is situated. During winters, from 5,288 to 7,068 meters the towering peaks raging are snow clad.

The ablation of Bhagirath Kharak Glacier is surrounded by a thick layer of debris and above sea level their snouts are located at 3796m and 3858m. From Bhagirath Kharak Glacier originates the Alaknanda River and joins Uttar Ganga upstream to Alkapuri. Alaknanda joins Saraswati River at Mana. En route of these glaciers enchanting the Vasudhara fall is located.

How To Reach Bhagirath Kharak Trekking

From Joshimath these glaciers can be accessible in the Chamoli sub division by following the motorable roads of Mana and Bhagirath. From Mana village the trek follows the course of River Alaknanda. The left bank of the river is suitable for pitching tents down the valley about 2 km. you can reach the Bhagirath Kharak Glacier in summers only.
