It is located in Uttarkashi district and well known glacier in Garhwal Himalaya. Gangotri is a famous Hindu pilgrimage site as well as trekking destinations. It is situated near the base of Shivling. One of the major tributaries of Ganga is Gangotri Galcier borders China and is the primary origin of water for Ganga and Bhagirathi. From Gangotri it is challenging trek in the heart of the Himalayas spanning to Gaumukh. Trek to the Holy land of Hindus is 17 km it is located by the bank of Bhagirathi. One such exciting trail in the Gharwal Himalayas is Gangotri Glacier to the origin feeding of river Ganga makes for a memorable trip.
A tributary of Ganga and Bhagirathi flows from here. By spiritual seekers, Gangotri is a religious sojourn crowd. From Rishikesh leads you a 12 hours drive to Gangotri. It is shape a huge mass of ice and not a single valley glacier but a combination of several other glacier that are fed to it. The course of water takes a turn presenting the form of cow’s mouth thus the name Gaumukh and the glacier flows northwest originating from right below the Chaukhamba peak. A few other tributary glaciers that shape the Gangotri are Miandi, Ghanohim, Swachand and Sumereu.

• Tehri to Rishikesh 85kms.
Day 1: Gangotri – Chirbasa:
Early in the morning begin for Gangotri. You will also passes through some streams and waterfalls. Here also you would find deserted glacier, cluster and Boulders of peaks are the prominent sight en route. Arrive in Chirbasa after a long trek. From Chirbasa you get clear view of the Bhagirathi peaks. The mouth of the Gaumukh glacier is also visible in the distance. You can also take acclimatization walk to explore the area to enjoy the side of river Bhagirathi in the blissful evening. You will be spending night in the tents to make a day more adventurous.
Day 2: Chirbasa – Bhojbasa:
This day is a challenging day of the trek but a comparatively short. By gradually upslope followed some steep climb in the starting makes this climb easier for trekkers. Head return to the campsite and take an acclimatization walk to Gaumukh after upon reaching Bhojbasa. The widest point in the valley is Bhojbasa, from this point it is only 1.5 km. Here, there are a few igloo like structures. The route to Bhojbasa is very scenic and level walk. From chirbasa the entire valley ahead of Bhojbasa is visible.
Day 3: Bhojbasa – Tapovan via Gaumukh:
The most difficult part of the trek is the trail to Tapovan from Gaumukh. The end of the Gangotri Glacier is Gaumukh and hence the origin of divine of river Ganges. Cow’s mouth is a basically meaning of Gaumukh. Rocky terrain is a final trek to Tapovan, Sadhus come here for meditation that’s why Tapovan is most popular. Akash Ganga is a glacier stream.
Day 4: Tapovan – Chirbasa:
To traverse depending upon the prevalent conditions this stretch return to Gaumukh. The trek return to Bhojbasa once at Gaumukh is the same. You can explore Tapovan if you have time in the evening. Tapovan makes for a pretty campsite and its length is 2 km. from Mt. Meru looks the most stunning and closest is the place to watch out for the place is Neelatal. Walk down the trek alongside river Bhagirathi after steep descend to Gaumukh.
Day 5: Chirbasa – Gangotri:
The trek involves a series of level walks and a gradual descend. This is a day of the trek. En route the trek, there are a few streams. From the Himalayas, you have choice to splash your face with some glacier water sourced. Your tour and our service is end here with great memories.
By Road: From ISBT Kashmiri Gate regular bus service is available to Dehradun. By road Gangotri Glacier is easily accessible.
By Air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun to Gangotri Temple. From Airport by bus travel the rest of the distance to Gangotri.
By Train: From Gangotri Glacier the nearest railway station is Rishikesh Railway station. From here regular bus service is available.
