Dokriani Glacier Trek

Dokriani Glacier is also known as Dokriani Bamak (the name of glaciers is Bamak). This is the medium sized glacier which is located in the district of Uttarkashi. It is one of the important Glacier of Garhwal Himalayas. Glacier’s melted waters create a stream called Dingad later met with other ice / snow melted streams and then finally combine into river Baghirathi close Bukki village. The Dokriani Glacier flows in the direction of northwest terminating at an altitude of 3800 m and 5 km long. Below the snout of the glacier there are several well developed Proglacial lakes and meadows located 2 km.

From Uttarkashi, the glacier is easily approachable and nearly 56 km on the road to Gangotri from here. From the (Bukki village) road on has to 23 km walk on route to Dokriani glacier. A footpath flows along the steep mountain slopes up to Tela camp after passing through the river of Bhagirathi. The Dingad stream is run along a trek offered to pass the several down and up ridges, it give an atmosphere of perfect tranquility and peace, many big and small streams and dense mixed forests of Oak, Deodar and Rhododendron, Pine, etc.

Throughout summer and autumn season is the good time to visit here. For the trekkers, these meadows also make best camping sites. You will reach Bukki Village after 2 km trek. You will lead another 5 km trek to Tela Camp from here. You will lead to some Gujjar Huts (a summer camp of Gujjars with their buffaloes) about 12 km further trekking. Below the Dokriani Glacier it just 5 km. The gateway of the valley is Gujjar Hut. This place one can walk up to the glacier and it is best for camping.

How to Reach Sunderdhunga Glacier Trek

From Uttarkashi one can easily access this glacier. From Uttarkashi is a 56 km road journey you will make reach Bukki Village to Gangotri. There is a bus terminal located near the bank of Bhagirathi River.
